City shocked at sudden demise of youth HDD

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10,2003

One of the most dignified colonies of the city,P.T.P Nagar, was
shrouded in grief two days back at the sudden and unexpected demise of Samsung HDD 80 GB.It was not even one year old at the time and no one expected voltage fluctuation to come as a messenger of death for the infant HDD.This reporter expresses his heartfelt condolences and wishes Mr.Manoj, the owner ,best of luck with the replacement.
The days were sunny for Mr.Manoj after the arrival of the new
HDD and understandably he was quite excited and proud about his HDD.After all, not too many people are fortunate to have a 80 GB HDD.Mr.Manoj, an ardent music lover and a passionate collector of new utilities from the internet, is said to have crammed his HDD with all the latest utilities and songs. In addition to that, Mr.Manoj's brother, Mr.Vinod, an
ardent gaming fan, reserved space for games too.Well, too many cooks spoil the broth .here..we believe too much of data might have spoilt the HDD.
This reporter was fortunate to get a full fledged rendering of the
sequence of events that led to the tragic incident, from the owner's mouth itself. Mr.Manoj had acquired an asianet cable modem and graphics card from two of his friends who had gone for a department assignment to IIT Chennai. Armed and ready with his new acquisitions, Mr.Manoj was indeed driving his computer full throttle.without rest. To put it in simple terms, he was just letting it rip!!! On the fateful day, Mr.Manoj was as usual queuing up downloads in his downloads manager, when the doorbell rang.
Being an electronics engineering student, his house had state-of-the-art security system. The door could only be opened after voice recognition, fingerprint
identification and retinal scanning. Who wouldn't take all these precautions considering the highly advanced and complex machine he was using???. Normally, Mr.Manoj used to lock the door using the 8 digit security code from inside and it could be opened from outside only after the intruder went through the three-pronged checking process. But, on that particular day, Mr.Manoj hadn't bothered to lock the door as he knew that his brother would be returning from college. Now, normally, Mr.Vinod wouldn't have had any problem in getting in.But,on that day, he had a cold and the security system failed to recognize his voice.
Some people call it fate.some call it coincidence.some call it .let people call it whatever they want!!!Anyway,Mr.Manoj who didn't want to move away from the system was shaken from his blank and unflinching gaze into the 15 inch monitor by the door bell. Cursing whoever it was at the door,he rushed downstairs. At this point,I would
like to bring to the readers' notice that though Mr.Manoj had a very advanced computer, his UPS was still very primitive and could hold itself ON for a meagre 15 secs. Anyway, after opening the door and letting Vinod in,Mr.Manoj turned around and was shocked to see the emergency lamp burning. Having come across the situation countless times,he immediately
understood that it was the indication of a power failure.Mr.Manoj,rushed upstairs and was relieved to find the system still ON.He shut it down and kissed the UPS out of gratitude for holding itself ON.But,somewhere, deep in his mind, something or someone was telling him that everything was not well as it seemed.
Mr.Manoj was to find out much later in the day, when the current
came, what his inner self was trying to tell him.All his HDD could manage was a faint tick. Then,it spinned it's last turn and then, there was no sound..it was no more. Though Mr.Manoj tried reviving it and rescuing all the data, the HDD had given up the fight. With tears in his eyes,Mr.Manoj removed it from his system. This reporter saw Mr.Manoj a few minutes ago and it is indeed a sad sight that meets the eye.The man appears totally dejected and lost.People have been pouring in from all quarters to pay their tributes to the HDD.
Even the sky was cloudy and grey just like Mr.Manoj's face and it
seemed that even Mother Nature was sympathizing with the poor guy.Let's just hope for Mr.Manoj's sake that the replacement HDD would have a longer life span and would serve Manoj more efficiently than the unfortunate HDD which was now all wrapped up, to continue on it's final journey to the LogTech godown.Let the head of the HDD rust in pieces...for cgpu news...this is your very own reporter .KARU

Thriuvananthapuram,Dec 01,2003

The famed educational institution of the state,College of Engineering Trivandrum(CET),was buzzing with activity today,as the local authorities and the police were frantically searching the violet umbrella lost by a female student of the college,Ms.Divya.V.J. It has been brought to this reporter's notice that Ms.Divya is a person who takes extreme care not to lose her things and her friends do agree to that.Under these circumstances,it has become a mystery as to how she could lose her umbrella. The police have already made an F.I.R and efforts are on to nab the cuplrit,if it is indeed a case of theft as the police suspect. All the people who were believed to have been in the vicinity of the umbrella are being questioned and we have been informed that a student whose name has not been disclosed,is being detained in custody. There are also rumours going on that it might be a purposeful ploy to get the female student drenched in these rainy days.It is said there indeed have been some verbal duels between the victim and some unidentified students in the issue of the umbrella and the rain. The police are investigating the above said incident quite seriously. Meanwhile,Mr.S.K.Mohan,has gone public and announced a handsome reward to anyone who could give information about the umbrella's whereabouts. The media persons are totally impressed by the Principal's gesture and feel that this just goes on to show the strong teacher-student relationship that exists in the college.Meanwhile,we could see a large number of students running about here and there looking for the umbrella. The S.F.I unit of CET have decided to launch a protest against the inefectiveness of the police in solving this case and have extended their full-fledged support to Ms.Divya in this issue. All the other student bodies have also promised their support to Ms.Divya in this issue.Meanwhile,Ms.Divya has not been available to give her thoughts on the issue. The police are doing everything they can and have assured us of a positive result to the case. They have already collected the water droplets that fell on the umbrella and have sealed off the place where the umbrella is supposed to having been kept.In the unlikely issue that they fail to solve the case,The Hon.Chief Minister has assured Divya that the case will be handed over to the CBI and the umbrella will be recovered. We feel for the unfortunate girl who may have to go to college totally drenched this december....At the same time,we sincerely hope that this case also goes into the stack of unsolved mysteries and that the police go about their work sincerely.Let's hope that the days are sunny for the sake of this poor girl...For CGPU news...this is your very own reporter..
