Dear friends and loved ones,
Warm greetings from Kuwait!
Am writing to seek help for a very dear child – Jonas “Toto Cayo” M. Huelar, a four-year-old boy born with a hole in his heart and who is in urgent need of heart surgery in order to save his life. He is presently confined at the Iloilo Doctors Hospital because of high blood pressure. The doctor has strongly advised that Jonas be operated the soonest. The much-delayed surgery could no longer be postponed and this will have to be done at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City. Sad to say, the entailed fee for the surgery is too high for Jonas’ parents’ to afford, actually the reason why Jonas was not properly and timely treated as an infant. All the parents and relatives could afford in the past four years were small hospital confinements in order to treat the boy’s debilitating symptoms, as is being done now. But alas, Jonas’ young body could no longer carry the burden of an ailing heart.
Please be assured that this email is not one of those bogus solicitation letters constantly circulating among Internet users around the world, like the Amy Bruce story, to mention one. Toto Cayo is real. He is actually the son of my nephew from a first cousin. His great grandmother and my mother are sisters!
Please know that this is my first time to actively solicit help in this nature. I did once attempt though, in 2002 to help an ex-OFW suffering from kidney disease find financial help for her regular dialysis, but didn’t push through as I was undergoing myself too much pain then - just lost my mother to breast cancer, lost my job of 10 years, and to top it all, was still in the process of accepting a cancer diagnosis! And also I was in great pain then because I thought I was abandoned by a newly-formed group I was full-heartedly and selflessly helping stand ground.
Am now appealing to your good heart to help Jonas in whatever way you can, please? The urgent need now is financial to defray the fees entailed for the surgery (around PhP360,000 as he will be needing two surgical procedures, according to Jonas’ grandmother) and hospital confinement in Manila. Whatever you can afford, though small, will be highly appreciated. You can also help by referring the family to people or group assisting medically unfit children. And of course, you will greatly help, if you can pray for Jonas, that he may surpass this current confinement, that his body will be strong enough to face the life-saving heart operation.
